2019/20 Committee Members

Paul Simons - Chairman

I’ve been an active member of NLSC since qualifying in 2005 and since then, I’ve now got loads of ‘Buddies’ in the true sense of the word. We’re a great bunch and I’m happy to have been the chairman for the last two years having previously been the website coordinator.

Diving is very different to my daytime job and the peace and relaxation I get from being underwater is complete.

I love the foreign holidays we go on as a club and have seem amazing sites around the world.

Tim Behean - Secretary

I gained my Open Water qualification with Dive Force in 1999, and have done many other courses with them since. The club is very friendly and inclusive, I enjoy being a member, especially the club trips. I dive around the UK and overseas, Most notably I have dived in Scapa Flow, the Red Sea, the Maldives, Palau, Komodo and Belize.

Jean Wheal - Social Secretary

I originally learnt to dive with the SAA/BSAC and then crossed over to PADI in 1983.

I helped Terry run North London Scuba School from 1983 until it merged with Dive Force in 1987 to become Dive Force Marine.

I went to work at Dive Force Marine in 1987 as a Book -Keeper and became the Company Director in 1996, which I continued to do until I retired in 2016.

Since North London Scuba was formed in 1983 I have been very involved with organising holidays, dives and social events for club members which I still do to date.

Terry Wheal - Diving Officer

After a passion with surfing, being a professional lifeguard and enjoying anything to do with water, scuba diving took over my life. Progressing from SAA/BSAC instructing, I became a PADI OWSI in September 1982.

I formed North London Scuba School and North London Scuba Club in 1983. I have taught many people from all walks of life, including Tom Cruise and Rebecca De Morney.

In 1987 I merged the school with Dive Force and became a Director of Dive Force Marine, until I retired in 2016. I am still active with North London Scuba Club in my role as Diving officer which I have held since 1983.

Jenny Francis - Treasurer

Ian Culley - Membership Secretary

I have been an enthusiastic diver since 2007 and joined North London Scuba soon after. I became a PADI instructor since 2012. I like diving so much I bought my local scuba diving training business (Dive Force) in 2016. I enjoy diving in warm and cold water and can be found in inland lakes and quarries when the water is 4 deg C. I am also a keen amateur marine biologist.

Dempster Marples - Web co-ordinator

I was fascinated in underwater life for many years until taking the plunge with a friend to learn to dive in 2011. While prepping up for my first post-training dive, my hand slipped off my wet-suit and I knocked a crown off one of my front teeth! After this, I came to North London Scuba to learn to do it properly, and have progressed steadily to Divemaster, the entry level professional qualification. The club has been wonderful in developing me and my buddy and giving us so many truly lovely friends, experiences, holidays and memories over the last 7 years.
