Paul Simons - Chairman
I’ve been an active member of NLSC since qualifying in 2005 and since then, I’ve now got loads of ‘Buddies’ in the true sense of the word. We’re a great bunch and I’m happy to have been the chairman for the last four years having previously been the website coordinator.
Diving is very different to my daytime job and the peace and relaxation I get from being underwater is complete.
I love the foreign holidays we go on as a club and have seem amazing sites around the world.
Ian Culley - Secretary
I have been an enthusiastic diver since 2007 and joined North London Scuba soon after. I became a PADI instructor since 2012. I like diving so much I retired after 30 years in the City and bought my local scuba diving training business (Dive Force) in 2016. I enjoy diving in warm and cold water and can be found in inland lakes and quarries even when the water is 4 deg C (Not too often though). My favourite place to dive is the Red Sea, where I particularly enjoy shark encouters. I am also a keen amateur marine biologist.
Roger Burdass - Treasurer
My fascination for the underwater world was kick started as a young boy by the movie “The Deep” and spent many hours swimming underwater in the local swimming pool imagining sharks and treasure.
Fancying myself as Nick Nolte when I became an adult, I truly started my adventures in diving in 1994 with a holiday in the Caribbean, and fell in love with the tranquillity of diving, the beauty of coral scenery as well as the freedom of being and breathing underwater. During my earlier years of diving I enjoyed many trips around the UK and Ireland, but these days prefer warmer dives.
Debbie Freedman - Social Secretary & Events
I first started diving in the 1990's with the Metropolitan Police SAC, and after a long break came back to diving with my son in 2017. Since then I have become a Divemaster and have started instructor training. My favourite place to dive is in the Red Sea where I can usually be found hunting clown fish and their anemones.
Jean Wheal - Membership Secretary
I originally learnt to dive with the SAA/BSAC and then crossed over to PADI in 1983.
I helped Terry run North London Scuba School from 1983 until it merged with Dive Force in 1987 to become Dive Force Marine.
I went to work at Dive Force Marine in 1987 as a Book -Keeper and became the Company Director in 1996, which I continued to do until I retired in 2016.
Since North London Scuba was formed in 1983 I have been very involved with organising holidays, dives and social events for club members which I still do to date.
Terry Wheal - Diving Officer
After a passion with surfing, being a professional lifeguard and enjoying anything to do with water, scuba diving took over my life. Progressing from SAA/BSAC instructing, I became a PADI OWSI in September 1982.
I formed North London Scuba School and North London Scuba Club in 1983. I have taught many people from all walks of life, including Tom Cruise and Rebecca De Morney.
In 1987 I merged the school with Dive Force and became a Director of Dive Force Marine, until I retired in 2016. I am still active with North London Scuba Club in my role as Diving officer which I have held since 1983.
